Day 12, 13 - Fort Myers

On Thursday we had breakfast at the St Augustine Cracker Barrel and set off for Fort Myers. We had hoped to meet with our niece Sam in Orlando or Michele in Vero beach, but work schedules would not accommodate this so we headed straight for our friends Liz and John. It rained much of the way but when we arrived at 2:30PM, all was good.

The last time we saw Liz and John was at the start of covid, hopefully this visit will be less crazy. Liz and John live in a very nice community that has its own golf course and other amenities. We are just able to fit in their driveway.

Friday: When we come to visit, Liz knows I am not an idle person and has a few chores for me to do. This time she had a few lights for me to hang, one involved converting a can light to a pendulum light. I found a conversion kit made by Westinghouse at Home Depot that made the job pretty easy. I jumped on the scooter and made a trip to HD for supplies and did the job with minimal cursing.

After my chores and lunch we set off for the golf course for a quick round. If anyone has been watching the PGA Players tournament they would know that northern Florida has had rain for the last two days, but the weather in Fort Myers has been spectacular, temperatures in the 80s and sunny. The course at Gateway is spectacular, it has been a while since I putted on greens that were so fast. I golfed like I expected I would after 6 months off, but it was fun. On the 9th hole I had a 'tin cup' moment when I sliced three successive balls into the water, but then again, they were John's balls :-). It was a fun round and felt good to get out on the course.

After golf, we headed back to the house and chilled until Liz and John's friends came over for a visit, we had met Ron and Linda on our 2018 visit and it was nice to see them again.  Liz fed us another nice dinner and before you knew it, it was time for bed. Saturday we do expect rain and will probably just lay around the house.

  1. Such a fun visit. Thanks for coming. Fred, you could have removed the garbage can and ladder before you took the picture. June, thanks for the walks. Thanks, too, Fred, for the Tin Cup moments we got to see you experience on the 9th hole. Don't quit your day job to become a Golfpro.

    1. Liz, if I had gone to the point where the ball crossed the water and dropped a new ball, it would be boring golf. Now we have a memory, you are welcome!

  2. Short but sweet, always look forward to visiting John and Liz. I especially like riding in the golf cart and watching others golf. Food and drink was aplenty. Their turn to come to Vermont. :)
