Day 14 - Tin Cup and Sister Visit

Saturday the weather forecast for most of Florida was rain and wind. We debated staying with Liz and John another day but ultimately decided that since the weather was going to be bad, we might as well get on the road. We have been told that guests are a bit like fish, after a few days, they begin to smell. :)

June and Liz did get a good walk in before the rain, I loaded the bikes and scooter. We then decided we would watch the move Tin Cup. I said I had a Tin Cup moment on the 9th hole on Friday when I put 3 in the water, but the reference was lost on John and Liz....really who has not seen Tin Cup! We started it over lunch and we could not leave until we finished it, it is a classic.

The rain came and went during the movie but left temperatures much cooler and a strong wind. We left for June's sister's place north of Tampa a bit after 3PM.

We decided to continue our coast hugging ways this trip and took the Skyway Bridge across Tampa Bay. The view is spectacular, but there were wind warnings, the ocean was rolling and it was a two hands on the wheel crossing.

We stayed along the coast (Route 19) and made our way to Jane's. It took about 45min longer than we expected. There was lots of traffic for a Saturday, but it never really came to a stand still.

Up to this point I have refrained from complaining about the price of fuel. When I left Vermont, I paid just over $4 per gallon for diesel. When we got to Florida, it was $5 per gallon, north of Tampa I filled up for $5.20 per gallon...now I am complaining, I guess timing is everything. The price does not seem to have reduced the number of vehicles on the road, things get busier every year in Florida.

We arrived at Jane's in Brooksville just before 7PM, it was 56F and windy; after 80's in Fort Myers, it felt like 40F.

Jane had a nice meal waiting for us. After dinner, I headed out to the Serenity and let June and her sister catch up, I would never get a word in anyway.  Tonight is 'spring ahead' so we lose an hour of sleep.

Sunday we will make our way to Pensacola to visit June's cousin Debbie.

  1. What a windy drive! Fred is a trooper. Jan and I did catch up on a few things and we remembered to set the clocks ahead.

  2. Glad you made it to Jane's. Cold, windy and snowy here. The smell of syrup in the making certainly helps, and the company of granddaughters! You are keeping the trip exciting. Keep it up!
