Day 20 - Gruene

Friday, Randy, June and I took our bicycles for a morning ride around his development while Sue had a Pickleball engagement. They are building everywhere, I took a few pictures but they just don't capture the scale of the buildout. Most of the building is away from Randy and Sue's neighborhood so we did not notice it until we rode our bikes to the other areas. Along the way we stopped and visited one of Randy's many friends, Glen and his wife Kay. Randy calls him Jimmy Johnson because he looks like him. :-) Glen is a connoisseur of Bourbon, it was early but we just had to have a sample.

There may have been a quick siesta after the bike ride....was Randy trying to hold Fred's hand or just saying "give me the remote"?? The recliners have been very useful. :)

A bonus for us was that my niece JJ, made the trip from Austin with her husband Omar, their friend Kim (who was visiting from Atlanta) and Kitty, their French Bulldog, she is a hoot.

We had made a plan to go to the town of Gruene, home of the oldest Texas dance hall. The town has a neat mix of entertainment, dining and shopping.

Randy and I went inside for a beer, unfortunately Ms Kitty was not allowed. The place is pretty cool, they had a live band and a sound system that was second to none.  Famous people like Willie Nelson have played in the hall.

We stayed for just one and wandered the town until we found our clan pulled up under a bunch of shade trees enjoying refreshments. We planned to eat at the Mex place for dinner, but found that pets were not allowed, so we ended up at the 'Inferno's Pizza'. They offer wood fired pizza and spirits. It was a great meal with delicious pizza.

While we ate pizza we were entertained by the 'Percolators', they were pretty good and a fun band.

After Pizza we headed towards home but stopped at 'Rileys Tavern', the first tavern licensed in Texas after prohibition, 1933. It had a good crowd with more live music, so we had to sit and enjoy it for a bit.

June and I had to get our photo in front of the famous neon sign.

Riley's is only a few miles from Randy and Sue's so it is pretty convenient and a great place to enjoy some music.

We got home and sat out on the patio by the fire, it was a nice way to end a good day.

Saturday we are planning to go to Luckenbach, Tx.  You know the song.
