Day 7 - Friends to Relatives

Saturday Chris and Nancy treated us to another nice breakfast before our departure.

We took a short drive of only 100 miles to Eric and Myra's place in Pikesville, NC.  Within 10 minutes of our arrival Eric was on a ladder washing the Serenity Falcon...now that is a host. Detailing is one of Eric's hobbies, and he has all the right tools for the job.

I must say it came out pretty sweet and the scooter got a wash too.

After washing the van we goofed off riding their side by side and dirt bikes all over the surrounding farmland. It had been a while since I was on a dirt bike, it was awesome. We got to meet some of Myra's family, her mother, brother and sister-in-law, very nice people. Myra is very lucky to have family so close, they all have adjoining properties and can visit via golf cart.

We spent the afternoon outside with the temperatures in the 70's and a warm sun, it was like our summer at home, it felt so good to be outside in shorts.

Meanwhile Eric had ribs in his smoker going since morning. We did a pretty good job on them at dinner time, they were delicious.

Eric and Myra are both good at crafts, after dinner Eric grabbed a clear plate and and etched it with our name.  It was a fun process to watch, first develop the image on Adobe Illustrator, then print a vinyl negative on his printer (a Cricut on steroids), then weed the vinyl on a weeding table, then put vinyl on transfer paper, then transfer it to the plate (photo), then mask all but the negative, then carefully sandblast the plate and finally remove the masking.

The finished product came out very nice, he is quite talented.

It was a good way to pass the evening while visiting.

Sunday, we will make our way to Hilton Head (5 hours) and meet up with some of my old IBM friends who winter there. If we can get an early enough start we plan to arrive in time to ride our bikes around a bit, I need to exercise off a few racks of ribs.

  1. Every day has been special so far and yesterday was no exception. Always good to see Eric and Myra in their home town. Not only did Eric wash the van Myra let me do a load of laundry! We were outside all afternoon and then had a delicious dinner. Did not expect a hand made personalized gift, it’s beautiful. Many thanks to them for letting us park here!

  2. Woke up this morning thinking "man, we should have crammed one more activity into the day, so I'd have been tired enough to sleep through the knight..."

  3. You sure are packing in the activities and meeting friends and family. It is 60 here today! No shorts, but no jackets for a little while.

    1. Glad you got some good weather, I saw on my weather station recorded sustained winds of 68mph last night with a gust to 80mph at about 10:20pm...yikes.
